Have you ever felt alone? Have you made a life-altering mistake that you can’t take back? Maybe you’ve been given an unexpected diagnosis. Or maybe you’ve succumbed to the grind of American life and are overwhelmed by the debt, the broken relationships, and the memory of the life you once hoped for. At some point in life each of us has felt forgotten.
“Where are you God?”
“I don’t understand. This isn’t how it was supposed to be.”
“Have I done something wrong?”
“What am I supposed to do now?”
In these situations there is usually very little that we can do to fix them. They are simply, ‘out of our control’. King David could relate. He cried out to God many times and through many circumstances. In some cases, David was the victim and in other cases his circumstances came about because of his own disobedience. In each case there was very little David could do except trust and wait on God.
How long, O LORD? Will You forget me forever?
How long will You hide Your face from me?
2 How long shall I take counsel in my soul,
Having sorrow in my heart daily?
How long will my enemy be exalted over me? – Psalm 13:1-2
And yet in EVERY CASE, God was faithful to David. “Why?”, you might ask? “Will God also be faithful to me?”, you might wonder. God was faithful to David for one reason and He will also only be faithful to you for one reason.
22 After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’ – Acts13:22 (emphasis added)
Simply put, David was ‘all in’. Regardless of where you are right now or however good or bad your situation might look, your only responsibility is to be all in. You may not be able to change your circumstance, take back what you’ve done, or make happen what you need to happen, but YOU CAN control whether you are a man or woman after God’s own heart….and that is your only responsibility in any moment or circumstance in your life.
Psalm 34 verse 10 is one of my favorites in all of the Bible because of who shared it. David gives us a statement of fact that we can stand on in any situation. He tells us that as we grow-up and mature and learn to seek God then we realize there is nothing to worry about. He says that by the right our need and the authority of God’s Word (JESUS) we WILL NOT lack any beneficial thing. Be all in today and trust God with the rest. He is good and you are not forgotten.
10 The young lions lack food and suffer hunger, but they who seek (inquire of and require) the Lord [by right of their need and on the authority of His Word], none of them shall lack any beneficial thing. – Psalm 34:10
